After a lot of trial and mostly error using a slip link from linux 99pl12 to a dos system running wnos the problem was traced to an incompatability between linux and wnos header compression. Recompiling the linux kernel with header compression off cured the problem. Is anyone else aware of this? Dick -- Dick Ferryman G4BBH Which is best, Dos under Linux or Linux under Dos ? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Feb 94 11:18:40 UTC From: pi8esk@pi8esk.ampr.org Subject: Problems with JNOS and Buckmaster CD-ROM To: tcp-group%ucsd.edu@db0fho.UCSD.EDU I have here some problems with the Buckmaster CD-ROM and JNOS (1.10x15). I,m running JNOS on a 486SX/25 Mhz computer under MS-DOS 6.2. In my autoexec.nos i have the following commands: CDROM D: Callserver pi8esk.ampr.org 1235 Callserver2 hostname pi8esk.ampr.org callserver2 database \ham0\hamcall.all start callbook In the config.sys of the system i opened 50 files. As soon as i use the CA command from the BBS or Callbook from the cmd screen i,ll get the error: Could not open database - pse try later.. (in the meantime the CD-ROM was searched for the callsign) This happens even if the coreleft is 160 kb, the buckbook.h tells me that at least 77 kb is neccesary to get the database start ed.. If i,m shelling out to MS-DOS (multiserver is on) then it is not a problem to start the icall.exe from the Buckmaster CD-ROM. On my second system here ( a 486DX2-66Mhz) with the same configuration everything works fine, only that system is not in use fo r packetradio... So somewhere there must be a memoryproblem...i think.... Hope someone can give me some further hints how to get the Buckmaster started on my 486SX/25....
